Process

How do I register?

  • Simply call us on 01268 272200 and we’ll arrange for one of our team members to visit you. That way we can discuss all your options and talk through the opportunities available to you.

How long will it take to qualify?

  • That’s up to you. Most learners who enrol on work based training with Life Skills Solutions need between nine and twelve months to complete their course, depending on how quickly you want to achieve and the level of qualification you choose.

Do I need to have certain qualifications to enter a course?

  • That depends on what qualification and level you choose. Most Apprenticeships do not require any prior qualifications, enabling you to gain the skills you need in the work place. Advanced Apprenticeships are suited to those who have completed an Apprenticeship or for those of you who have had some work experience. Your Training Assessor will be able to discuss this with you and advise on what qualification is best.

Products/Qualifications

What qualifications can I do?

  • There are many to choose from! For further details look at the menu on the left hand side

Will I have my own tutor?

  • Yes. You will be allocated your own Training Assessor who will help you to build a portfolio of skills that you can put into practice straight away whilst you work towards gaining your qualification.

Is it distance learning, or day release at a college?

  • No, most of your learning takes place in your workplace.

Is it work-based learning?

  • Yes! We use distance learning where learners are fully supported by tutors and are assessed in the work place.

Do I have to take exams at the end of the course?

  • For Lifeskills learners you may need to take some tests in one of our training centres at the beginning of your course but there is no final 'end of qualification' exam to sit. Depending on what course you choose, you may need to take an exam in some circumstances.

Costs

How is the training funded?

  • Much of our training is funded by the government which means minimal or no cost to the employer or learner.

Will it cost me anything?

  • Much of our training is funded by the government which means minimal or no cost to the employer or learner.

General

How will I know what course is suitable for me?

  • If you're unsure about exactly what type of qualification you should take, we will help you decide. A professional Training Assessor will guide you through your training and assessment, and together you'll complete a Personal Learning Plan. Don't worry about choosing the right qualification - your Training Assessor and Manager will help you.

I am tied to this course, is there a penalty for not completing?

  • No, but don't forget that if you leave your course without qualifying then you will not be issued with your certificate which would help your employment opportunities.

What are the benefits to those who train?

There are so many reasons why work based training is a great idea. Here are just a few:

  • You get a nationally recognised qualification;
  • You can apply what you learn right away;
  • You take your qualification with you - wherever you work;
  • You can learn in a way that suits your lifestyle;
  • It costs you nothing and you get paid while you train;
  • It helps you to do your job better and can help you get promoted; and
  • It could even help you to earn more.

Employers

Do we pay for the course, or is it funded by LifeSkills Solutions?

  • We recognise that company training budgets may be limited. We work closely with employers to ensure that qualifications are delivered at minimal, or no cost to the business.

How does it all work?

  • If you already have in-house training, we will help you to develop your existing programmes to the national standards set by your industry. We can also integrate your training with the relevant Apprenticeship programmes where possible.

Is the course to be done in Company time?

  • If you already have in-house training, we will help you to develop your existing programmes to the national standards set by your industry. We can also integrate your training with the relevant Apprenticeship programmes where possible. This often means that your employees are exempt from specific parts of the qualification. Training and assessment can be done whilst employees are at work with regular visits from the Training Assessor. Visits can last up to 2 hours and time may be required away from the work place for the employee to visit our local Life Skills centre for tests. Wherever possible we try to keep time away from normal daily duties to a minimum.

Do I need to sign an agreement?

  • Yes, a simple form needs to be completed for each employee who train with us but its more to capture certain details such as employer address and what course they are doing. The Training Assessor will talk you through this agreement before you sign.

How long will a course take?

  • That's up to the learner. Most people need between nine and twelve months to complete their course, depending on how quickly they want to achieve and the level of qualification they choose.
